According to Skin Excellence Clinics, with dermal fillers and non-surgical cosmetic procedures on the rise, more people are flocking to clinics seeking such treatments as they long for a more youthful appearance. Much like veneers and lip fillers, dermal fillers have become hugely popular as of late and celebrities across the globe are very much heading the trend. You may have considered dermal fillers for yourself but may be mulling over the decision, thankfully we’ve compiled a list of the pros and cons.

Pros

Dermal fillers leave you with a youthful appearance. They work by filling in areas of your face that have sank with age, therefore eliminating any wrinkles and scars that you may have. They also work by making your lips fuller helping you look younger and in turn, miraculously boosting your confidence.

Dermal fillers also last for a rather long time and if you head to a reputable clinic, such as Ten Dental, you will be able to enjoy your new look anywhere from half-a-year to a full twelve months meaning little regular work is needed in order to maintain your new look. You may be worrying that the fillers are going to be very inconspicuous, but the results are subtle and will be exactly what you’re after. Most people you meet will be able to see that you’re sporting a youthful glow but won’t know exactly what you’ve had done.

You also don’t have to worry about damaging your skin as dermal fillers are often based on substances that are beneficial for the skin hence they continue to produce satisfying results post-treatment. Dermal fillers tend to be based on either collagen or hyaluronic acid, two substances that are already in your skin and the two that are responsible for causing your skin to look youthful and healthy; this is why they cause your skin to look plump and hydrated once injected.

Cons

Of course, like with everything, there are some things that may go wrong with dermal fillers. However, this is very rare, and the cons are minimal.

Hyaluronic acid fillers take time to show results and if something is to go wrong you either have to live with it or head back to your practitioner for it to be corrected. Whilst there is no possibility of an allergic reaction to using hyaluronic acid, collagen is sometimes derived from cattle and some people are allergic to this particular type of filler. That said, the dangers can be eradicated with a simple skin test, very similar to the way a hairdresser carries out a patch test before dying somebody’s hair. Though, more often than not, filling agents made from fat harvested from your body are used instead, eliminating the risk of an allergic reaction.

Another con is the pain. Side effects of dermal filler treatment can include bleeding and bruising and whilst you can expect this to go away pretty quickly, that’s not going to ease the pain during the injection process. To help ease the itching post-treatment, avoid make-up, exercise, sun exposure and alcohol consumption for a short period. These small, short term commitments are well worth the youthful glow, we promise!
