History
Liverpool are the most successful side in English football history. Although a league title has not been added to the crammed coffers of the trophy room since 1990, cup competitions continue to be won on a regular basis and Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho will have gazed on jealously as Liverpool took their place in their second Champions League final in three years in 2007.

Bill Shankly's idiosyncratic style of management has been much aped since his tenure between 1959 and 1973 and he is widely attributed as setting the cogs in motion for the club's huge success in the 1970s. Bob Paisley replaced Shankly and in nine years won six league titles and three European Cups among many others.

Joe Fagan came and went, winning the league, European Cup and League Cup before 'King' Kenny Dalglish - perhaps the Reds' greatest player - won the league a further three times as well as three FA Cups.

Liverpool won the double in 1986, one of only six sides ever to do so, and the amount of European Cup wins achieved by the Merseysiders is unparalleled in England. Notable ex-players include the club's all-time top scorer Ian Rush, European footballer of the year Kevin Keegan, playmaker Kenny Dalglish, libero Alan Hansen and wing wonder John Barnes.

A long-mooted move to a bigger ground on the neighboring Stanley Park site has been given the green light and construction work will begin at the new 60,000 stadium during the close season.
