Hull KR capture prop Scott Wheeldon from local rivals Hull FC
Hull KR have announced they are to re-sign former academy player Scott Wheeldon from local rivals Hull FC next season on a two-year deal.
The prop forward has spent the last two seasons at the KC Stadium after beginning his career in east Hull.
But he will move back across the city during the winter, despite producing some solid performances for the Airlie Birds this season from the starting lineup and as an interchange.
Wheeldon revealed that the opportunity for a regular place in the starting XIII at Rovers was his main reason for returning to his former club.
"The priority at this stage of my development as a player is more game time," he said.
"I will be 23 at the start of next season and am keen to expand my game, which can only be achieved by more time on the field.
"Rovers have shown their ambition by just missing out on a top-six place in only their second season in Super League.
"While it will be an obvious wrench leaving fellow young players and mates at the KC, it will be an exciting challenge to rejoin the club where I first sampled club rugby in the academy."
Hull KR head coach Justin Morgan added: "Scott is a talented young man with huge amounts of potential and with regular game time all will witness that he is a force to be reckoned with.
"It's fantastic that we can attract young players of his calibre, he has invaluable game time under his belt and I'm sure will regularly feature within the side at Rovers next year."
