Wolves' Mick McCarthy named Championship manager of month
Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy has won the manager of the month award for August in the Championship.
The former Republic of Ireland coach has led his side to the top of the second tier of English football with three wins and a draw in the first four league matches of the season - including an impressive 5-1 demolition of Nottingham Forest last week.
Wolves also recorded a 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Molineux on the opening day of the season, as well as a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, which sees them above Preston North End and
Birmingham City on goal difference.
Despite their league successes, however, the Championship leaders did suffer an early exit from the League Cup - losing out in a penalty shootout to League Two side Rotherham United following a goalless draw at the Don Valley Stadium.
That victory for the Millers, coupled with an unbeaten start to their league campaign, led to a similar award for boss Mark Robins.
Rotherham face a daunting task in League Two this season, having to overturn a 17-point penalty imposed for breaching league rules governing the financial management of clubs.
However, the team have started well and already won ten points from a possible 12.
The League One manager of the month award went to Nigel Pearson, who has guided his Leicester City side to top spot with three wins and a draw - plus progress past the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and a narrow 3-2 defeat to Premier League outfit
Fulham in the Carling Cup second round.
