Adrian Mutu appeals against £13.8 million Fifa fine over failed Chelsea drugs test at sport's highest court
Adrian Mutu has filed an appeal against a €17.2 million (£13.8 million) fine over a failed drugs test while at Chelesa.

The court of arbitration for sport (CAS) confirmed on Friday the Romanian striker, now at Fiorentina, wanted Fifa's decision to be annulled.

"Mutu requests the CAS to annul the Fifa decision and to establish that no compensation is in fact due," a CAS statement said.

Mutu, 29, who had already said he planned to appeal against the fine, tested positive for cocaine in 2004.

Chelsea subsequently sacked him and sought compensation from the player they signed from Parma the previous year.

No date has been set for the appeal hearing, but CAS said it would deliver its judgment within four months.
