Graeme Hick will retire from county cricket at the end of the season
Graeme Hick has announced that he will retire from county cricket at the end of the season.
The 42-year-old big hitter has played professional cricket for almost a quarter of a century, scoring 136 first-class centuries.
He currently averages 52.23 and has scored 41,113 runs in 526 games.
A statement on the Worcestershire county cricket club website simply announced that Hick had informed the club of his decision and the player would be available for comment later in the day.
Having made his Worcestershire debut in 1984, Hick has gone on to break almost every batting record at the club and enjoys iconic status amongst fans.
Like Surrey's Mark Ramprakash, while Hick flourished in the domestic game he was never able to transfer his talent to the international scene.
He played a total of 65 Test matches at an average of 31.32 after making his international debut against the West Indies in 1991.
He played his last game for England in 2001 against Sri Lanka.
