Andy Murray produced a magnificently gritty display to come from behind to defeat the dangerous David Ferrer in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

The Scot was a set and a break down in the second before coming back strongly to eventually grind down his Spanish opponent in just under four hours.

This victory sets up a semi-final clash with fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who defeated Philipp Kolschreiber in four sets.

In triumphing over Ferrer, Murray was also able to avenge his loss to the Spaniard in the quarter-finals of the French Open last month.

No British man has won one of tennis' majors since Fred Perry scooped Wimbledon and US Open titles in 1936 but Murray has managed to make it to at least the semi-finals of six of the last seven grand slams.

The other semi-final will see six-time champion and third seed Roger Federer take on world number one and heavy favourite Novak Djokovic.
