Participating in the X Factor may be starting to become too much to handle 16-year-old contestant Janet Devlin, after it was revealed the singer has been unwell with a stress-related illness.

The youngster, who has performed well in previous weeks and has been one of the favourites to win the competition, was criticised for her version of The Jackson 5's I Want You Back by judge Gary Barlow last week.

But she admitted the comments had a big impact on her confidence and led to an illness that she said she knew was stress-related.

"I had such a weird kind of headache that I couldn't move without it hurting. I can't even describe it. I felt like I was going to throw up a lot so I thought it was better to lie in bed," Devlin stated.

The news comes amid controversy surrounding the show, after 18-year-old participant Frankie Cocozza was booted out by ITV bosses for his consistent rule breaking.

Cocozza was well known for partying during his time on the X Factor and was once alleged to have only got 30 minutes sleep the night before a live show.

But it was the final straw when he was reportedly found to be taking cocaine on his nights out, as well as continuing to bring girls back to the X Factor house.
