Florence & The Machine have been forced to pull out of two European festivals after the lead singer lost her voice.

The singer - Florence Welch - took to her Twitter page to announce that doctors have advised her to rest her voice after feeling something "snap".

Florence & The Machine had been due to perform at both Benicassim in Spain and Optimus Alive in Portugal this weekend.

The singer has apologised on her website at having to cancel the gigs at such short notice.

Ms Welch is not the only high profile artist to have suffered with voice issues as Adele had to cancel a large number of concerts last year as a result of a haemorrhage on her vocal cord.

"I'm so sorry to all the fans, I was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage," Ms Welch wrote.
