British actor Robert Pattinson has predicted that his new art-house film will be enjoyed and even embraced by Twilight fans.

Cosmopolis tells the tale of the of a bored millionaire banker and opens in the UK this week.

The Briton told BBC News that some of his die-hard fans will want to just see him play vampires, while others won't want to see him try and recreate his role in Twilight in another film.

He also defended his fans from accusations that their dedicated behaviour was at times "crazy".

The heart-throb said on the red carpet he is often given gifts such as books from fans that are lined up in the rain and some people would unfairly judge them for that.

However, the actor countered by saying: "All these people come up and give what they've been reading and found interesting. This is not giving you teddy bears."
