John Darwin is to appeal against his prison sentence
A man who faked his own death in a canoeing accident is to appeal against his prison sentence for fraud.
John Darwin, 58, was jailed for six years and three months after admitting to faking his own death and claiming over £250,000 in payouts.
His lawyer, John Nixon, confirmed today that he would lodge an appeal to the court of appeal against the sentence.
"An application will go before a single judge who will either grant leave to appeal or if that is refused, Mr Darwin will likely ask the full court of appeal for the right to be heard," Mr Nixon said.
"It will happen on a date to be listed."
His wife Anne has also lodged an appeal against her six-and-a-half year jail sentence after she was found guilty of money laundering and fraud.
Darwin was declared dead after going missing in 2002, he dramatically reappeared last year when he walked into a London police station claiming to be suffering from amnesia.
