Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton was released from jail today
Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has been released from jail today.
The 25-year-old was released after serving two months of the six-month jail sentence he was handed after being found guilty of attacking a man.
CCTV footage captured Barton punching a man to the ground during a night out in
Liverpool on December 27th.
He admitted assault and affray in relation to the attack back in April.
Barton is no stranger to controversy. On July 1st he was handed a four-month sentence suspended for two years for assaulting former team-mate Ousmane Dabo when both were
Manchester City players.
And in May, he was cleared of vandalising a taxi on a night out in Merseyside.
The troubled player will welcome the comments made by his manager, Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan, yesterday when he said Barton still had a future at the club.
The midfielder signed for Newcastle in June 2007 in a £5.8 million deal.
