India calls on Pakistan to extradite fugitives
The Indian government has called on Pakistan to extradite 20 fugitives thought to be linked to last week's terrorist attacks on Mumbai.

Indian's foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee said that names had been presented to the high commissioner of Pakistan on Monday.

At present it is unclear what links the fugitives to the attacks. Pakistan has said it will produce a formal response once it received the list.

Relations between the two countries have become increasingly strained since 188 people were killed in seven separate attacks in Mumbai, with Indian officials claiming there is evidence the militants had Pakistani links.

Pakistan has denied the accusations, however.

Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, called on Pakistan to cooperate fully in finding who was responsible for the attacks.

Ms Rice will visit India on Wednesday for talks aimed at easing tensions between the countries.

"What we are emphasising to the Pakistani government is the need to follow the evidence wherever it leads and to do that in the most committed and firmest possible way," Ms Rice said earlier this week.

Mr Mukherjee told reporters Indian had no plans for military action in response to the attacks.
