With the weather forecasts blissfully wrong and Camden again bathed in glorious sunshine, the only thing that spoils an eagerly-awaited - but overly early - set from at the Roundhouse is the 'hilarious' (translation: action of an arsehole) deployment of a stink bomb before Ms Hesketh's entrance.

Yet despite the sulphurous stench of the venue and a crowd who only throw themselves into her power pop in its final throes, it's a breathless, loveable set that instantly validates the BBC's decision to crown the Blackpool lass the sound of 2009.

With tenorion and stylophone in hand, her platinum blonde hair grasped in Princess Leia bunches and wearing the same sea green backless dress seen in the New in Town video, she'd have star written all over her even before unleashing a 45-minute burst of disco pop perfection, with every song a potential single and indelible melodies thrown with casual abandon throughout.

While the above's a fine way to introduce Little Boots to the masses, the Debbie Harry sheen of her vocals on the explosive Every Little Earthquake or the ADD pop of Meddle would have better demonstrated the wonderfully homemade, bedroom musician quality of a repertoire that's set for top five dominance this summer.

But as the Camden crowd finally permit themselves a hint of abandon on the unsurprising closing rush of Stuck on Repeat, it's clear that while they might have picked the wrong first single, sixsevenine records have the brightest star of 2009 on their hands.
