Lewis Bazley recommends a teenage take on Lost in Translation as it hits the DVD shelves.
Two people are thrust together for one hilarious, sleepless night of adventure in a world of mix tapes, late-night living and live, loud music. Nick (Michael Cera) frequents New York's indie-rock scene nursing a broken heart and playing bass with his band the Jerk Offs. Norah (Kat Dennings) is questioning pretty much all of her assumptions about the world.
Though they have nothing in common except for their taste in music, their chance encounter leads to an all-night quest to find a legendary band's secret show and ends up becoming a first date that could change both their lives.
A box office smash in the US, it was somewhat ignored after its UK release thanks to a marketing campaign that failed to push it as 2009's Juno after it debuted on a crowded weekend but, to be honest, it's on DVD where this affectionate and alternative take on the teen romantic comedy really belongs.
Cera is his usual endearing and awkward self while Dennings shines as the beautiful and disaffected Norah in an impeccably soundtracked and utterly enchanting tale of two impossibly cool but immensely likeable teens falling in love.
