Film releases on DVD

Wednesday, 03 Sep 2008 16:26
Kate Bosworth and Jim Sturgess star in 21, out this week
21, What Happens in Vegas… and The Eye in this week's biggest film DVDs to hit the shelves.

What Happens in Vegas… , out on DVD this week, brings 'Cameron' and 'Ashton' together, according to the condescending poster campaign - do Diaz and Kutcher not need to use their surnames anymore?

That aside, this formulaic romcom from Starter For Ten director Tom Vaughan sees Kutcher as a holidaymaker who drunkenly gets hitched to workaholic Diaz (who's, confusingly, both kooky and neurotic) in Sin City and plans to get an annulment only to win millions on a slot machine after using his new wife's quarter.

The pair are then forced, by a 'crazy' judge, to live as a married couple for six months to settle the matter - 'hilarity' ensues, of course.

Also released this week, having reached the number one spot at the US box office, is 21, starring Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Jim Sturgess.

When MIT professor Micky Rosa (Spacey) discovers a fantastic mathematical mind lurking behind the shy exterior of geeky Ben Campbell (Sturgess), he hits upon an idea to make some money from the youngster's genius.

With Ben struggling to pay his college tuition, the lure of Rosa's blackjack club - as well as the looks of Jill Taylor (Bosworth), one of those beautiful maths queens who only exist in cinema - proves too strong and soon Ben is part of a team of students looking to beat the house in various Vegas casinos. But with the stakes rising, disaster is only one deal away.

Continuing the trend of remaking Asian horror films for Hollywood is The Eye.

Jessica Alba is the eye candy blind violinist whose cornea transplant leads to some very disturbing visions – but is she seeing a dark past or a violent future?

In a DVD release seemingly designed to get you all revved up before you head out on the town, Soulwax - Part of the Weekend Never Dies sees documentary-maker Saam Farahmand chronicling the mammoth touring schedule of the amazing Belgian quartet.
